Sony Unveils Bloggie Camera

Sony unveiled their Bloggie touch camera. The Bloggie Touch (MHS-TS20 and MHS-TS10) captures full 1920x1080p high definition MP4 video and 12.8-megapixel photos on 8GB or 4GB of embedded memory, respectively, offering approximately four hours of HD movie recording. It sports a three-inch diagonal capacitive touch screen.

Bloggie Touch cameras feature minimal hard keys and a large, vibrant touch screen that automatically adjusts for vertical or horizontal shooting and viewing, enabling customers to shoot video right-handed, left-handed, right-side-up or even upside-down. You can record video, snap photos, or both at the same time, just by pressing two of three simplified buttons on the device. An advanced user interface features intuitive “touch and flick” recording control, search and playback operation, as well as a simple Share-it-Later function to tag the clips and pictures you want to post for easy upload when you are online.

Sony’s Bloggie Touch cameras are equipped with a F2.8 wide angle lens and a sensitive Exmor CMOS sensor, the new cameras achieve high resolution video and crisply-detailed still photos with less noise, even in challenging lighting conditions. Additionally, its processor allows videographers to attain 4x digital zoom and auto focus capabilities, including Auto Macro to focus sharply on objects as close as four inches away.

The ultra-compact, lightweight cameras slip easily into a pocket or purse so they can record your favorite moments anytime, anywhere. The Bloggie Touch has SteadyShot image stabilization for smoother footage, Face Detection technology to enhance faces by automatically correcting exposure and a built-in USB arm for easy charging and uploading to a computer. It even features an HDMI output to enjoy content on your HDTV.

After shooting, it’s never been easier to share your favorite videos and photos on the web. By connecting the camera to an internet-connected compatible computer via the built-in USB, pre-installed Bloggie software quickly imports your content and makes it a breeze to edit, organize, and even transfer your videos and photos to popular sharing websites with simple drag and drop motions. It includes direct upload to Facebook, Flickr, Picasa Web Albums and YouTube photo and video sharing sites.

The built-in Bloggie software also connects to Sony’s Personal Space online service that shares your photos and videos privately with individuals you select. Personal Space service offers registered users the ability to create Sharing Groups by entering email addresses of friends and family. Once footage and images have been uploaded, the service sends an email invitation to those groups with a link to view content on your Personal Space service.

Available in silver or black, the MHS-TS20 and MHS-TS10 will be available in October for about $200 and $180 respectively. The Bloggie Touch cameras, and a specially designed protective skin jacket, will be sold at Sony Style retail stores, www.sonystyle.com/bloggie and through the Sony Retailer Network nationwide.

The World's Most Luxurious Laptops

Every product category targets various budgets, and this applies to laptops as much-if not more-as any other gadget. However, when it comes to the high-end segment, it’s very easy to cross the line, wherein a product falls into the premium category, and its cost is no longer a concern. As part of our Luxury week at Tech2, we’ve picked a handful of ultra-high-end laptops that were born to be drooled over. If you think that a laptop that costs Rs 1,00,000 is expensive, read on for some surprises.
Alienware M17X
Price: US$6,747.99 (Approx. Rs 3,11,150)

Processor: Intel Core i7 920XM 2 GHz

Hard Drive: 512 GB Raid 0 (2 x 256 GB Samsung SSDs)
Optical Drive: Dual layer Blu-ray writer

Microsoft Office Professional 2010
McAfee Security Center - 3 Years
Dell Online Backup 100 GB - 1 Year

Alienware Orion Laptop Backpack

When speaking of gaming PCs and laptops, Alienware is the first name that comes to mind. It’s nice to see that gaming is no longer a luxury, considering the affordable laptops that the company comes up with. This is what happens when these affordable machines are spruced up to be turned into monstrous power houses. The price shoots through the roof, again making it a luxury product. In the case of the Alienware M17X, the Core i5-520 variant costs about US$ 1,799, but we maxed out to the highest configuration to see how much the full-fledged version costs. This price may exceed even further if you opt for some value added services and some Alienware recommended accessories.

The Alienware M11X, which is a lighter and much smaller gaming laptop, also costs a fortune if you max out the hardware configuration. While the starting price of the unit, with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU is about US$799, the Intel Core i7-640UM variant with high-end specs can go over US$3,500.

HTC S740 - Dual Keypad Smartphone

HTC has come out with a design which others have not dared to try. A dual keypad one with a normal keypad on the top like any ordinary phones and the slider opening up to unveil a full scale QWERTY keypad.

The only awkward thing we notice in the phone is the screen when used with the full-scale keypad. It just doesn't fit. When using a QWERTY keypad you need a complete display to view emails and other things but due to the 12-keypad on the front this is not possible.

The data connectivity offered by the HTC S740 is faster than 3G coming up to over 7MBPS. The phone weighs around 140 grams and measures 116.3 x 43.4 x 16.3 mm with a 2.4 inch QVGA display. Normally we would expect a VGA display but due to the small scren size we will have to settle for QVGA. Other features like Wi-Fi which has become customary in all new phones along with 256MB of inbuilt memory, 3.5mm audio jack, and Usb 2.0 port.

The S740 comes with a Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system running on Qualcom MSM7225 , 528 Mhz processor. The phone is WCDMA compatible along with HSDPA and GSM capable. There is GPS and AGPS navigation along with a FM radio built-in.

This HTC smartphone is scheduled to be released in mid September 2008 and could retail for $550 without carrier subsidy.

Aircel Peek - QWERTY mobile for Rs.2999

It looks like a simple Blackberry but it doesn’t make any calls. That’s alright because Aircel’s Peek lets you manage upto 3 email accounts in exhange for mobile telephony- all for a down-to-earth sum of Rs. 2999. In this bold move, Aircel’s Peek is a device that shies away from technology convergence and instead focuses on specialization and economy.

This colour display device has a QWERTY keyboard and looks like a business class phone. On the Peek, users can read email attachments in Word, Excel, PDF and image formats as well as send and receive attachments up to a maximum of 10MB in size. There is also support for Microsoft Exchange.

The specs of the device are pretty impressive. Here we have a 2.5-icnh QVGA res 65K colours screen, a multifunctional clickable scroll wheel, a back button and aluminum plated back. For security purposes, the device comes with a security lock that protects the Peek from unauthorized access. For extra measure, the device deletes all data if any attempts are made to enter the password more than 10 times in a row. Battery life should not be an issue either as the device runs comfortably for 2-3 days under a single charge.

The Peek comes with prepaid and postpaid plans. For prepaid offers, users can get unlimited email service for Rs. 867 for 90 days. After this period expires, the user can recharge for Rs. 89 to receive 7 days of validity or the user can pay Rs. 299 for 30 days of validity. Of course, usage here is unlimited.

For post paid customers, users have to pay Rs. 897 for three months of unlimited email service after which a rental of Rs. 299 per month will be charged. While this device seems inexpensive, internet on mobile could be a cheaper, better alternative. It looks like Aircel may have a tough sell.

Koss PortaPro 25th Anniversary Headphones

This series of headphones by Koss, known as the PortaPro is true retro at its grungy best. Reminding one of the late 80's moving into the 90's, these on ear stereophones come with punk rock written all over it — you can imagine contorted teenage faces leaning with one leg on a graffiti encroached wall wearing one of these.

This updated model has quite a striking appearance, and most of the design attributes are unconventional and old school. The black painted metallic extendable headband reminds one of the Discman days, with it's distinct ‘street’ feel. The style of this headphone is typical on ear, supra aural headphone, with a special slider switch on the earpieces which can switch from ‘firm’ to ‘light’. This switch, or lever, to be more precise, is gray in color, and though small in size, is responsible for imparting the sporty look to the unit.

Now here is the first caveat: putting the headphones on can be a little trying, or it definitely needs some getting used to. But once it’s on, there's no doubt that it feels light and comfortable. One thing's for sure, the foam on the earpieces is going to come off, and there is not a thing in the world that we can do about it. It’s replaceable, and quite inexpensive though, and every supra aural headphone in the mid level segment has this same foam, and they always tear in a year.

As for rated specifications, the frequency response is 15-25,000 Hz, Impedance is 60 ohms, Sensitivity is 101 dB SPL/1mW, Distortion <0.2%, style="font-weight: bold;">Performance
I plugged it onto a Philips GoGear Opus and took it out for a spin. My first impression was that this headphone was capable of delivering enough loudness to cut out external noise to a large extent. The sensitivity at 101 dB is on the higher side, though not the highest we’ve seen. This notwithstanding, the sound is full bodied and large.

Speaking of frequency response, the bass is very good, and is more than most full sized circumaural headphones I've heard from other Koss headphones to be honest. The bass and low mid frequencies have body, but are not boomy. There is no distortion; the loudest levels also come through very well. The only small iffy, if it has to be mentioned is a small one — basically the sound has less accuracy in its dynamic range, thus soft parts sound a little louder than they should, but this is hardly a real issue to dampen the performance. The high frequencies( treble) was also very clear and in perfect proportion to the lows, though overall it is the low bass that takes precedence in the frequency range. The sound is very slamming, a stark opposite from ‘laid back’, like some other models of Koss.
Conclusion
At Rs 4,500, there is not much to complain about these cool headphones except that they're slightly pricey. They have a clean, wide soundstage, with especially sweet treble. Bass is powerful enough to satisfy my Low Frequency urge. The Portapro is a very nice headphone and it's no wonder that it’s been around for 25 years. It's still worth a buy for constant travelers and portable media player users.

Handgun USB Drive

Nothing will ever make you look quite as cool as owning a handgun flash drive. Sure, you can’t take it in most places, due to the stir it might cause. At least you’ll look tough though. With your jet black drive, I’ll bet you only store the toughest of your information on the drive. I haven’t the faintest idea what kind of information would be called tough, but I’ll bet you figure it out.

The drive itself won’t shoot anyone, but you might be able to fend off the dumbest criminals of the world. Hidden within the handle itself is where you’ll find the USB port you need. On that drive you can store up to 4GB of pictures and documents. That’ll give plenty of room, especially for the price you’ll pay. The drive will only cost you $22 through USB Geek.

Playboy Belt Buck With Built-In Spy Camera

This is isn’t the first spy camera I’ve come across that’s placed inside a belt buckle, but this is definitely the most classy way to pull it off. Nothing says elegant like a Playboy Bunny belt buckle. Then to give it a whole new level of chic, you throw in a spy camera right at waist height. With this belt you’ll be ready to go for your next night of expensive strippers and keep up your reputation as the local peeping tom.

It has a USB cable to come with it as well as a driver disk. Then within the camera itself is a time setting function, a reset button, manual video recording and acoustic control recording automatically. The video is set at 720 by 480 resolution. Then as far as memory goes it has 16GB built into the belt. In order to purchase this belt it’ll cost you $43 from Shopkami.

Robotic Skateboard

Man, I saw this guy here and said: “does this guy look cool or what?”

Yeah, I had to cover this story. I mean, it is about a robotic skateboard for crying out loud! In all honesty, I don’t know whether I would call this a robot, and I think its got a little too few wheels to be a skateboard.

I’m guessing that those two wheels are designed to be perfectly balanced, just like a Segway. In fact, the user has to lean forward to make it go forward, just like a Segway (so I’m told).

I’m not certain what that thing sticking out on the front of it. I mean, it looks like some sort of thing that was sticking out of my carry-on baggage. In other words, it looks like this guy is standing on his luggage! Still, when I step on my luggage, it doesn’t go at 6 miles per hour. I think that a real skateboard could probably go faster, and I’m not certain how safe this is, really.

You should be able to get this robotic skateboard sometime in 2013, but for a price of about $1000. Yes, that is a very expensive price for a skateboard, but this is a robotic one, kind of.
